Communications ID

SAP : ECC 6.0

Lesson Learned:
Communications ID (or previously called CPIC ID) will need the password changed after SysAd provides initial password.

Problem:
When using this communications ID to connect from Lotus Notes to SAP, the user gets a "Password Expired" error.

Solution:
Change Communications ID to Dialog type ID, log in and change initial password to what you want. Then change ID back from Dialog to Communications type of user.

Other Comments:
Looks like a bug when using external programs to log on to SAP. When I tried creating a test RFC to check if it gets an error, the userid does not get an error when I try to test using "Remote Logon" button.

Update on this (10/2/08):
In ECC, for a non-SAP system and lower version- SAPs to communicate via RFC to ECC systems, the password will need to be in CAPS and limited to 8 characters.

Another option is to set the global parameter "login/password_downwards_compatibility" to 5. With this option, every user in the ECC system will be limited to 8 character passwords and the password is not case-specific. So, this is not a good option I think. We changed it back to the first option to just change the specific CPIC id to CAPS and with 8-character password.
